The College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Sri Lanka (COMSSL) is the national professional body representing Oral and Maxillofacial (OMF) Surgeons in the country.
OMF Surgery is a specialized branch of dentistry focusing on the surgical management of diseases, injuries, and deformities of the mouth, jaws, face, and related structures — integrating dental, medical, and surgical expertise to provide comprehensive patient care.

The origins of the specialty in Sri Lanka trace back to pioneering surgeons who trained overseas, holding qualifications such as FDSRCS and FRCS from the United Kingdom. Local postgraduate training commenced with the Master of Surgery (Dental Surgery) degree in 1987, later evolving into the MS (Oral Surgery) and finally the MD in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program introduced in 2010 under the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo.

The professional journey formally began with the establishment of the Sri Lanka Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (SLAOMS) in 1999. Reflecting its growth and academic advancement, it was renamed in 2020 as the College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Sri Lanka (COMSSL).Today, the College is committed to education, research, professional excellence, and patient care, while fostering unity among its members and promoting the advancement of the specialty across Sri Lanka.
